Originally aired from 1985 to 1992, 7 seasons 139 episodes and 2 TV films.
MacGyver Lost Treasure of Atlantis
MacGyver Trail of Doomsday
There is planning for a new feature film, possible production in 2013. Although Anderson has said he'd be interesting in reprising his role as MacGyver there is no word yet who will be playing the role. If they really want to screw the movie up just pick someone other than Anderson, IMO. There will also be a series of short films with Anderson reprising his role as MacGyver this September 2012, created My Mercedes-Benz, available on their website for the MPV Citan.

For about six years MacGyver was on then Monday Night Football, a staple of television in the late 80's early 90's in the US. This show went into syndication almost everywhere and should be familiar to people from many countries. All seven seasons are available on DVD and they're nice pieces of work. Made the transition well. I borrowed a friends DVD collection and I give it a seal of approval.

A little trivia. Anderson did a lot of his own stunts, due to serious multiple injuries not many by the end of the series. I notice how MacGyver has an aversion to guns in the show. In Stargate SG-1 jack Oneill's son was killed while playing with his service pistol. This was also part of the story arc in the feature film Stargate and cannot be directly attributed to any influence from Richard Anderson. Just a coincidence.

Also Don S Davis was the stunt double for Dana Elcar in MacGyver, Davis went on to play General Hammond in Stargate SG-1.

  • Excellent!

Although, this show singlehandedly gave me the impetus to create I can't even tell you how many apparatuses (apparati?) to smoke weed out of from the ages of 16 to 20.

  • this was back when they made TV shows worth watching, i really liked the emphasis on using intelligence and science to overcome obstacles

TV was changing fast in the late 80's because of deregulation. Back then even though there were fewer stations there was a greater variety of companies competing with different content. Now it's hundreds of channels but they're all owned by a few parent companies. The content has gone to shit. Strange how that worked out.

  • I never did get into MacGyver for some reason. I started playing guitar in a hard rock band with my brother in 1979, and I have to say that I never, not one time, got into that whole "KISS" thing. What a bunch of goof balls.

And the Grey Poupon commercial is funny because I hadn't tried that dijon mustard in a long time and then had some when I ordered room service with my wife back in January. That is some good shit!! Turned my son on to it and he loves it more than I do. We tr More..

Not a Kiss fan either. Just didn't appeal to me as much as other bands of the time, like oh say, Van Halen or America, just off the top of my head. About a hundred other bands I'd rather be listening to from that era.

  • You know I never realized it but I swear the idea for this show came from the A-team. It's just like a more Canadian version. lol.

The A-team had an aversion to guns to. Even though there were gun fights in every episode, nobody ever gets shot. Well mostly, Murdock got shot once...

    • @Anti-Authoritaria
The A team had those Ruger mini-14's, which was a little different. They never shot anyone with 'em. They'd let loose with a barrage of lead and the worst that would happen is cars somehow flipped over. Then the bad guy would crawl out dazed.

This was actually to get the show rated for censors so it could be aired in an earlier time slot.
