Yea , too bad for you , we had some great times back then.
The sport has come a long way , but it had to go through a lot of stages to get to where we are today!

Yea , used to stand behind staging waiting to go on down the track and get the car after the burn outs and launch , I remember the smell of nitro and little flecks of rubber coating my hot dog , I ate it any way!

It was , the exhaust pipes were totally different from any other drag car running.

They had a more tuned and smoother sound , and when it opened up it was awesome.

Especially when standing behind it in staging.

Most of the top fuel cars do that to you if you get close enough to them , like when they fire them up in the pits to fine tune the engines.

Does rattle your bones , and sometimes if you are driving a hot rod with awesome exhaust , it can give you a woody!

Do you get the chance to go to the drag races there in your city?

I know you guy's have your share of motor heads!

    • @RustRocket Well, Arboga (name of my town) is very small and couldnt support any real dragracing but we do have an airstrip that would be perfect! Been to some dragraces a couple of miles away but it wasnt any topfuel stuff, just regular musclecars!:)

Yea , the guy I was a neighbor to growing up , was a pioneer in the sport , back when in the fifty's and early sixty's they would race on the tarmac at the local airport.

Then he and his father built the very first Tucson Dragway , drag strip out on the east side of Tucson.

Story I heard , was that he and his partner , got Don Garlits started in drag racing.

He was also very good friends with Evel Knievel.

  • Not a blown Hemi.
354 cid aspirated Chrysler. Low 9's at a buck 70. A piece of history.

These guy's were pioneers in the sport

They had several versions of the car over the years.
Maybe the Speed Sport roadster that you remember had that 354 motor , but the ones that I was involved with , they all had a Blown 426 Hemi.
      Later a Keith Black.

I was referring to the car in the video.

That car is owned and operated by the Greth team , it originally was a partnership between Lyle Fisher and Red Greth.

The "OL Noisey' that I am familiar with , was with the Fisher team , he had his version powered by a Blown 426.
The CID that Red is running , I am not aware of , but it does have a blower for sure.
Actually now that you mention it ,Red does have a couple variations of "OL Noisey".

There is a version of "OL Noisey" that pops up on the west More..

    • @the wedge

In Hermosillo Mexico , Fisher broke into the sixes , he had a top fuel dragster that wasn't OL Noisey , Keith Black Blown 426 Hemi in that car.
      He liked that cubic inch.

  • Cool....got more of that?

    • @cbdragi

Yea , another video showing a mild burn out and then it just shows the two vintage cars slowing down and running down the track casual.
I guess the rules today are real strict on safety , and they don't let them run full on Bat Shit Crazy! anymore.

I could post it , but the burnout is way on down at staging and you can't really see much , by the time they pass they have already slowed way down. Sorry I won't waste anyone's time posting that one.
