yeah when a guy like this talks about what he's been through you just keep your mouth shut and listen. I've been through some bad shit but it's hard to compare anything to what these guys went through
I hired a "tunnel rat" to run the IT department at one of my branches. They had to be almost insane to do what they did. Although I am physically small enough, I am not mentally tough enough to have volunteered to do what they did.

This might sound funny but whenever I have to endure something painful or frightening like a root canal or whatnot, I think of what people like this man and other have endured. It really puts it into perspective and helps me cope with my reality. In short, it helps me cowboy up.
Quoted comment by Big__Beezy: No respect to anyone who calls Vietnamese 'gooks'.
I would have called them gooks, slant eyes, anything that helped prevent me from that second of moral hesitation before pulling the trigger. When he's dead and I go home alive he isn't going to give a damn what I called him.

No it doesn't sound funny whenever you are moaning or complaining about something it seems a bit insignificant when put in that perspective.
My guess that that dude was sitting in that chair because of back injuries associated with a life time of carrying around such humongous balls.
The only people that should be allowed to criticize a Vietnam Vet for using the word %u201CGook%u201D is another Vietnam Vet what never used the term. I doubt you will find many of them.
Also, don%u2019t take this the wrong way, because I mean no disrespect, but I was watching Forrest Gump a while ago and noticed that he volunteered to go into the tunnels. I about blew soda out my nose when I saw it. Again, I%u2019m not comparing this guy to Forrest.

I dunno, isn't it a little like calling the WWII Germans "Jerrys" or the Japanese "Nips" etc...
Maybe not so much a slur as a handle?
