  • It might have something to do with their culture that values hard work, education, personal responsibility, discipline, etc.

    No entitlement or victim culture allowed In Switzerland.

  • They are required to keep their assault rifle at home, indeed. But if they use it elsewhere than at an approved shooting range or during military training they get it confiscated and must go to court. When the Swiss talk about "defending themselves" they mean against an invading force, not against criminals, as in that small country it's impossible to be more than 2 minutes away from armed police. So that's not the reason why they have low crime rate.

      You get an assault rilfe to keep in your cupboard or where ever by they take out the key part that the gun need to function so it's useless.

      those parts you get at the gun range when you go train or the "Schützenfest" takes place.

  • Switzerland has a very low crime level for many reasons, but this is not one of them.
    One reason is, thats its next to impossible for any poor forign people to settle in switzerland. They are all thrown out quite quickly.
    Another reason is that the education level of swiss people is very high. Even "low level" workers have an education comparable to lower level colleges in the usa.

  • not just liberal gun laws make it a great place, but liberal health and mental health care, as well as strong liberal education programs for every citizen. notice the word liberal.
    That means everyone gets them not just the wealthy.

  • If high gun ownership was responsible for Switzerland's low crime rate the same rule would apply in the US. So does the US have the same crime rate as Switzerland? Hmmm let me guess.

    • @dietcokesucks Having lots of guns doesn't make safe counties, not having guns does. That's why the UK has a few hundred guns deaths annually but the US 30000.

    • @Bialetti Are you kidding? Who said it was because everyone owns a gun? Thats what the title implies but the video tells the full story. Did you even watch it? Or are you commenting on things here with out watching them? Our crime rate is high because of a lack in education.

      Everyone in my neighborhood owns guns and LOTS of them. I live in a nice upper middle class neighborhood. Do you know how much crime happens here every year? None. Everyone here is polite and cares for everyone else here. More..

  • In Japan, all kind of guns and firearms are totally forbidden since WWII, and it has also the lowest crime rate in the world.

    Gun legislation is nothing to do about it, it's just in the culture or not, whether real violence is accepted or not, what is the strength of the social control of the neighbour. And that's it.

    • @olifaxe One town in the US. A law was passed requiring every household to have at least one gun. Burglaries dropped by a half immediately. It is not the LAW itself that does it, it is the balance of power. If you were a criminal, you would not like the idea of risking your life every time you commit a crime, but if you feel safe, knowing that nobody is likely to have a gun, regardless of what the law says, you do not have to worry, and can feel safe committing crimes against people.

  • Makes me want to move out of California where majority of the guns are in the wrong hands. You would have to be completely insane to try b&e over there. More power to the Swiss though, me thinks it is a brilliant idea.
