A woman died Tuesday night after her husband accidentally ran over her in the alley behind their home while the couple was searching for their lost dog, police say.

Diana Ray died at Parkland Hospital, just a few hours after the accident happened around 6 p.m.

Lt. Bill Hedgpeth of the Mesquite Police Department said Diana Ray and her husband Lynn, 66, had been searching the alley behind their home in the 2600 block of Hyacinth. Mr. Ray was driving his Ford F-150 pickup truck, and Mrs. Ray was walking.

Diana Ray found the animal, and put it in the bed of the truck, then began walking toward home. Her husband began backing up the vehicle, but did not see his wife. The truck struck her in the alleyway.

Mesquite police say there will be no criminal investigation into this case.
