TROY, Ohio (WDTN) - A Troy father who admitted killing his infant child was sentenced in a Miami County courtroom Jan. 24. Though the judge gave him the maximum sentence by law, the prosecutor told 2 News he can't be satisfied given the baby's injuries.

Jason Durig was sentenced to 15 years to life for murdering his eight-month-old son Caleb inside their Troy, Ohio apartment in July 2010.

The coroner ruled that the child had been beaten. There were even bite marks on Caleb.

During the sentencing Durig read the following, "I just hope to God that everyone can find it in their hearts to forgive me. I am hopeful that I can get the help I need and the last thing I want to say is that I accept the punishment I am getting and to say that I'm very sorry for all that I've done.

A victim's witness, Deanna Hardin read a statement as well directed toward Durig, "Why didn't you ask for help. We would've taken Caleb in with us. The two people Caleb thought he could trust are the two people who hurt him the most.

The child's mother, Tara Durig, pleaded no contest to permitting child abuse. She faces up to 10 years in prison and is expected to be sentenced January 31.
