Too Many Loopholes in Financial Reform

On today's Morning Meeting, Dylan Ratigan brought on Senator Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) to discuss the ongoing attempts to achieve a measure of financial reform, so that the widespread systemic failures of "too big to fail" banking institutions that cratered the economy maybe don't happen again. Cantwell went off: "The shenanigans just began here in Washington." Cantwell continued, "What is m More..

  • Corporate America wins again. They own the GOP and appartently the Democrats as well. That's probably not news for some.

It's a joke to say that America is a democratic nation. It more resembles a plutocracy or even a kleptocracy.

Plutocracy - is rule by the wealthy, or power provided by wealth. In a plutocracy, the degree of economic inequality is high while the level of social mobility is low.

Kleptocracy - is a term applied to a government that extends the personal wealth and political power of government officials and the ruling class, via the embezzlement of state funds at the expense of the wider population, sometimes without even the pretense of honest service.

Whatever the case may be, the US oligarchy owns and controls everything in America.

  • Seems to me it is the Democrat Congress since 2007 that has handed out the handouts and bailouts.
Be real both parties work for the rich, even Obama and this Congress are going to tax the crap out of the middle class and the poor were targeted with the Tobacco tax.
Health Cae reform will make the drug companies rich and more people forced to buy Insurance.

I understand what you're saying about Corporate America but consider this for a minute.

No matter what business your in "you" are going to try to make the most money you can within the rules.

I don't think that any business (large or small) is going to change that goal. Sweeping the sidewalk or flying planes we all want some value for what we do.
If the rules apply evenly across the board it's a simple matter to set your self on a road to success and follow it to the end.

The problem as I see it, is the Congress in our form of government is supposed to be the firewall for the citizens they represent and one of those mandates by their constituents has always been a level playing field for all business.

Congress has seen fit to become nonrepresenative of the very people they are supposed to serve and very represenative of the money and power. They write these massive bills that no one can understand and so full of legaleze that they are able to slip this and that by. It's the "this and that" I think are the problem because in the end all these little items end up benefitting one "business" or another in order to tilt the playing field there way. Just look at any list of the current people in Congress(both parties) that are under investigation for one thing or another.

These are just the in your face guys that got caught and in my opinion just the tip of the iceberg on this little problem called corruption.

Vote all incumbents out in 2010 and I'll bet you'll get their attention real quick and maybe they'll even listen to we the people for a change and Not Corporate America. Then we can to start turning this mess around.

Don't forget that regardless of what Coporate America wants the majority of the jobs in this country are small businesses and some one better pay attention to these people real soon. They are righteously pissed off.

Corporate America can not stand without the support of the small businesses in this country.
