- Hunting season from July till November;
- This year hunters will kill an estimated 91,000 seals of which are 85,000 puppies (<1 year) and 6000 adult males;
- 10 puppies make one fur coat, being sold to Russia and Asia;
- Especially for the Chinese market males are killed for their penis and testicles, which is used as aphrodisiac;
- Profit for the hunters: 4 euro /$5,65 for each (total turnover 360,000 euro/ $509.813 but with 90 hunters it basically means 4000 euro for 4,5 month work. After the hunting season most of the hunters are unemployed);
- Real profiteer is the Turkish-Australian business man Hatem Yavuz. He buys all skins for a factory in Istanbul. 'Skins are our business' is stated on the website of the Yavuzgrup.
