Another Theater Shooting in the U.S.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Moviegoers at a screening of The Bourne Legacy near Reno, Nev. had a bit of a scare on Tuesday night, when a man adjusted himself in his seat and ended up discharging his gun right into his own backside. According to witnesses, he apologized to the rest of the theater and promptly left the movie. No one else was hurt.

As soon as the gun went off, he wasted no time in telling everyone he was sorry and vamoosing. Cops found him shortly afterward at a nearby hospital where he was seeking treatment for the bum wound. He did have a valid permit to carry a concealed weapon, it turns out — which still doesn't mean it's necessarily a bright idea to bring a gun to a movie theater.

A 56-year-old man ...

“There was no panic in the theater as only five people heard the shot out of the approximate 30 people in attendance,” police said in an email about 11 p.m. Tuesday. The case will be forwarded to
the Sparks City Attorney’s Office for possible charges related to the gun going off, Dyer said in the news release.

  • Perhaps you shouldn't keep a round in the chamber next time..... At least put the safety on.

  • I think a better idea than not bringing the gun would be to not chamber a round? That's fucking stupid.

Unloaded, no, but chambering a round and carrying it in condition three is pretty sketchy unless you have a striker gun like a Glock or Walther. My comment on chambering a round was assuming the pistol was single action.

Or just carry a DA / SA and decock the damn thing to condition two after you chamber a round. Impossible to have a negligent discharge.

Regardless, it was this idiot's fault, and the anti-gun lobby will pounce on it.

You're right. I had my conditions backward.

What I meant was condition one: chambered, cocked, safety on. It has been awhile since my firearms license test, so forgive me ;p

You knew what I meant, at least. This guy was clearly doing something stupid and the anti-gun weirdos will pounce on it. You're probably right about the shitty holster. I really like Kydex friction holsters. They allow a quick draw but keep the trigger assembly stowed and secure.

    • @Myopinionisrelevant Condition one is the only way to carry. External safety or not, in a GOOD holster of course. When you understand how a firearm operates, there should be no fear of the gun "going off". The gun will not fire, unless you pull the trigger.

  • awww bless em, brought his guns because he was nervous...but not nervous enough to practice good firearm safety..

  • I like how the author likes to interject the comment about bringing a gun to the theater...and it "not" being a good idea. We've got 1 story of a guy shooting himself in the ass, and another story of 60 some people shot by a gunman.. What we don't have...is the story of thousands of people who most likely carry a legal fire arm into a theater everytime they go(me included).. The only thing that is reported on is the bad stuff. When is the last time anyone read the story about the M More..

  • 30 people in attendance? Sounds like the new Bourne movie's bombing.

    • @Myopinionisrelevant The only difference between the two is one pull of the trigger.

  • I wonder if this guy and the Holmes nut job were delusional losers who had no life and lived through the popular electronic opiates TV and Movies? They both thought themselves to be actual movie characters.
