195,000 Fewer Americans Had Jobs in July; 150,000 Dropped Out of Labor Force

(CNSNews.com) - There were 195,000 fewer people employed in the
United States in July than in June, according to the Bureau of Labor
Statistics, as the national unemployment rate ticked up from 8.2 percent
to 8.3 percent.
Meanwhile, 150,000 people simply dropped out of the labor force during the month and did not seek to find a job.

In June, according to BLS, there had been 142,415,000 people employed in the United States. In July, that dropped to 142,220,000--a decline of 195,000.

Similarly, in June, there were 155,163,000 people in the civilian labor force
in the United States. To be counted in the civilian labor force, person
must be 16 years old or older, not be in the military, prison or a
mental institution, and either have a job or have actively looked for a
job in the past four weeks.
In July, the number of people in the civilian labor force was 155,013,000--a decline of 150,000 from June.

The number of people who were unemployed--meaning they were 16 or
older, not in the military, a prison or a mental institution, and had
actively looked for a job in the last four weeks-jumped by 45,000 during
the month, climbing from 12,749,000 in June to 12,794,000 in July.
During July, the number of people who simply left the labor force
(150,000) exceeded the number of newly unemployed (45,000) by more than
two to one (105,000).

    • @Foxbattle
I'm not looking up anything .
      LIBtards claimed , as
I recall, 6% unemployment rate was considered DEPRESSION era... back in 2008.
      why was that ?

      What changed?

      0h
and get ready for the REAL depression era five months down the road,
watch the job losses in January when the defense industry cuts hundreds of THOUSANDS of jobs as was agreed as the only option left to control the budget.
of course, president (R)omny will take the fall
or,oBama(D)umbass will finger point that (R)ich ar More..

    • @Airedale You're right. If the military cuts jobs, it is going to increase unemployment. When did the military start hiring on a massive scale? Under the last president, back in 2003.
Back then did you remember to mention that Bush had an unfair advantage to his unemployment figures because he started those two wars?

      I'm sure you did.

Remember, judge presidents on equal terms. If Bush had that advantage, you can't blame Obama for having that advantage too.

But on the other hand, it just mean More..

    • @Foxbattle you really are mentally retarded, aren't you? exactly what wars did Bush start? do you mean the war in iraq, after sadaam invaded kuwait? you're probably retarded enough to believe a no-fly zone is a picnic indoors. is the other one afghanistan, where bin laden was hiding out? yeah, really good argument. how about coming up with something original, all on your own. stop sucking the worn out liberal dick.

    • @Amusing I think you're confused. Saddam didn't invade Kuwait when the last Bush was president. That was in the 90's, not in 2003. Bush started two wars in his term. He was criticized for it, but "he was the decider".
You're trying to ignore the past, and be revisionist. That's dangerous stuff. Being ignorant or willingly lying about history is hurting the present and the future.
As they say, forget history, and you're doomed to repeat the same mistakes.

  • Since Libs live under the notion of unbiased news and facts, they should concern themselves with the real unemployment number, and that' known as the U-6 and is calculated separately from the "normal" unemployment number. This number is over 14% and includes those that have fallen off the registers.

This is an unmitigated disaster. And now let's bring on Obamacare.

    • @IIVXTII - Google "private versus public sector jobs" and you will see Bush had a lower unemployment rate due to the HUGE number of government jobs added during his administration - the "socialist"! An you will find that Obama has created more Private sector jobs than Bush. NUMBERS DON'T LIE.

The republicans have convenient memory. No sense in arguing with them. They just blabber a lot of stuff out of context.

If they really want Romney to win, they are going to have to start being real schmoozers to the other side in order to gain votes (Maybe some ass kissing?). Bad-rapping and mud slinging just ensures the Liberals not to vote for Romney.

There's a book called "Winning Through Intimidation". A best seller at one time. The republicans should read it.

    • @TooManyNewbs You might want to believe it, but they aren't in reality.

That's how right wingers seem to think these days, they don't care about petty things like facts or science, they just FEEL they're right, no matter the evidence.

And that's all that matters to them.
THAT is why America is going down the shitter.

    • @Arizona_Patriot There aren't more people dropping out than in previous quarters. The jobs are created, it doesn't say there are less unemployed, it says there are more people employed in jobs.

I'm looking at the data from BLS now and I don't see what you are talking about.

      http://www.bls.gov/news.release/empsit.a.htm

This data shows a minus - of 195,000 of "Employed" under the "Civilian work force" and minus - of 150,000 leaving the work force. Just like the article says.

Maybe you can help me understand this data.
