In 2010, the president again insisted he would avoid tax increases while speaking to a gathering of House Republicans:
Why would the president oppose raising taxes when economic growth was 5.6 percent but propose raising taxes when it’s at 1.9 percent? When it’s politically advantageous to be seen as raising taxes on the rich.
If there’s another answer to that question, it’s not obvious – or not obvious to me, anyway. But that’s precisely what Barack Obama has done.

I doubt I would call the economy fragile today. Businesses are making record profit and instead of reinvesting the money they are just holding on to it. Defeats the purpose of bailing out the banks. If they won't loan the money then tax them. We do it for patents why not public investments.
