Quoted comment by EventHorizon2012: The military doesn't care about it's soldiers beyond their usefulness in the field. They are, by definition, disposable.
the best thing a govt can do is train the soldiers and give them the best equipment...soldiers are meant to fight, and to die...if you think different than you dont understand how this world works...sorry

The object of war is not to die for your country but to make the other bastard die for his.

If her husband was in WW2, I would think he was deployed for more than 18 months. Also when you sign up on the dotted line, you need to know how to read first. If you read your contract you will see that you can be extended if needs be. Just learn to read first. If you dont like it, dont sign! I am not that smart but come on people!

But it's an accepted fact that regardless of whether it's a walk over or not, you expect to take on casualties. If leaders weren't willing to accept that some of their troops will die, no one would go to war.
Poster101 has a point though. I think it's a fact that any combat soldier and probably all soldiers should take into account that it's part of their job description to risk their lives.

THey're not great at unconventional wars. Find a country stupid enough to line up their tanks and planes and take the US head one (Saddam circa '91) and it's done in the first few days.
Get a conventional army stuck in a non conventional war, and their effectiveness wears off remarkably.
(If I'm not mistaken you're aussie? Not to brag, but our reg army has a rather well earnt reputation as being one of the best at adapting and taking on unconventional forces, earnt through PNG and vietnam)

You're a ******* idiot.
I just said that the military doesn't care about them beyond their usefulness in the field..... which means they give them the best training and weapons and that's it.
If you don't understand that the military often abandons it's soldiers after they are injured or crippled for life, then you should shut the **** up.
That's not the way the world works, it's the way third world shit holes governed by dictators work. It shouldn't be the way the greatest country in the history of the world works.
