Sukhoi T-50 PAK-FA (HD)

The Sukhoi PAK FA is a twin-engine jet fighter being developed by Sukhoi
OKB for the Russian Air Force. The Sukhoi T-50 is the prototype for PAK
FA. The PAK FA is one of only a handful of stealth jet programs
globally. The PAK FA, when fully developed, is intended to be the
successor to the MiG-29 and Su-27 in the Russian inventory and serve as
the basis of theSukhoi/HAL FGFA being developed with India. A fifth
generation jet fighter, the T-50 performed its first flight 29 January
2010. Its second flight was on 6 February and its third on 12 February
2010. As of 31 August 2010, it had made 17 flights and by mid-November,
40 in total. The second prototype was to start its flight test by the
end of 2010, but this was delayed until March 2011. Sukhoi director
Mikhail Pogosyan has projected a market for 1,000 aircraft over the next
four decades, which will be produced in a joint venture with India, 200
each for Russia and India and 600 for other countries. He has also said
that the Indian contribution would be in the form of joint work under
the current agreement rather than as a joint venture. The Indian Air
Force will "acquire 50 single-seater fighters of the Russian version"
before the two seat FGFA is developed. The Russian Defense Ministry will
purchase the first 10 aircraft after 2012 and then 60 after 2016. The
first batch of fighters will be delivered with current technology
engines. Ruslan Pukhov, director of the Centre for Analysis of
Strategies and Technologies, has projected that Vietnam will be the
second export customer for the fighter. The PAK-FA is expected to have a
service life of about 30--35 years.

  • Beautiful aircraft; the first Russian plane I've ever really found aesthetically appealing. We'll see how it stands up against a Raptor, though. I wish our two nations would stage a war game specifically for these two planes; we could learn a lot from each other.

    • @Rowhan Rachel Maddow is an idiot, and her show is full of inaccuracies. The video you linked, which I have seen before, is her basically reciting some general facts about the plane, which she has no other knowledge about.

The way she says "it can't even withstand small arms fire," showcases her stupidity, because an air-to-air fighter isn't designed to take hits like an A-10; that's like arguing that modern day warships are worse than old battleships, because they cannot take a 400 m More..

    • @NightCrawler
It is no doubt designed to be a 'raptor killer'. Whether their ambitions succeed or not is yet to be seen. The russians (and Americans) have a history of designing new warplanes as counters to previous ones. For example the F-15 was designed specifically to counter the MiG 25 which was designed specifically to counter the XB-70. Also, the MiG-31 with its (then) new look-down radar was designed specifically to counter the low flying B-1b. This new Sukhoi/HAL T-50 is equipped with l More..

    • @mikedelta12 It certainly is funny how the Cold War is "over," yet the two super powers are still taking jabs at each other. I think it is a good thing, perhaps even healthy. Since we are allies now, we can keep each other in check without fearing nuclear annihilation.

This sort of alpha-dog mentality is also driving innovations which will really benefit the civilian world, one day or another.

I maintain that we should keep this relation constant, and join together to fight piracy More..

  • It'll probably eat the F-35 and F-22 for breakfast.

Thank the heavens Russian aircraft designers still know how to make good-looking elegant aircraft unlike the F-35 rubbish.

  • They still haven't attached 5th generation engines and did not incrporate other stealth features. It's still a PROTOTYPE, more like a technology demonstrator, a very capable though

    • @copilot1111111 i was going to mention the lack of 5th generation engines. good shout.

however, the question isn't really about it's RCS, you can bet your bottom dollar the russians can make an aircraft just as stealthy as we can. the real question is if it has anything to compare with the APG-77. you can also argue that the AN/ALR-94 is an even better piece of kit than the APG-77. has the t-50 have anything that equals this?

    • @yourboss Yeah, the Active Phase Array radar and also all the other systems and data processing, it has to work as one System and not present too much of a workload for a pilot at the same time
