Late in his life he served on the Presidential Commission investigating the Challenger explosion (as told in WDYCWOPT). Feynman refused to sit still for the standard management explanations and meetings, and instead visited with the engineers and others on the front line of the work. It was Feynman who brought a piece of booster o-ring, a small clamp, and a glass of ice water to a hearing, to demonstrate visibly and clearly what the problem with the boosters was. While the rest of the More..

  • Feynman was one of the greatest men of the 20th century. Don't be fooled by the New York dialect. He had a brilliant mind. Read any of his books, just amazing. Plain, down-to-earth wisdom.

  • Part of the reason I became atheist. Saying god created everything only cheapens the beauty of nature.

  • This guy was a genius who brought us Quantum Electro-Dynamics, the most precise theory know to man. It underpins all of chemistry, just to name one field... (well he did with Schinger and Tomonaga)

He was also dangerous with women! I shook his hand in 1979 when I was student in Canada... wish I could have sucked his brains....

Yes he had a New York accent and a true New York wise guy personality.

  • First video I favorite on Liveleak. What a great speech from Rychard Feynman. I admire how he says he's ok with living with doubt. And it's true. Sometimes scientists struggle too much to find out things, which is respectable. It's great that we've found out ways to make our lives better. However, we shouldn't struggle to find out why things are one way. They just are. Otherwise, it'd be similar to reaching the last level of something, when nothing really happens at all. We need to start living More..
