December 03/09.The "Butterflies in Space" experiment by BioServe Space Technologies at the University of Colorado. This experiment was made possible through the support of the National Space Biomedical Research Institute (NSBRI) and the Baylor College of Medicine (BCM). Larvae and technical assistance provided by Monarch Watch, Butterfly Pavilion, and Clearwater Butterfly.
A great shot of post-emergence of a Monarch. Usually they hang upside down on their chrysalis to inflate their wings. This guy is hanging on for dear life!!

If it had more space to fly around in it would be interesting to see if it could learn to fly/navigate without any sense of up or down and how differently its flight would look.
