@downhill2400 Really good teachers can also control a crowd without verbal violence. I had a wonderful history teacher in high school who never, ever yelled at us. When we got too noisy he simply raised is hand in disapproval and everyone kept silent. He was an asshole with the grades tho, but at least you learned not by fear but by respect. Not all teachers can be like that sadly, and not all students are as easily manageable (specially in the west I suppose).

@cbravo I agree. I have to admit that in my youth I responded better to violence as I respected it more. Back then if you wanted my respect you needed to be pretty tough. I have since changed my ways!
