In 2008 Barack Obama spoke to our deep frustrations with the politics of broken promises and abandoned dreams. He encouraged us to join him on a journey to bring meaningful change to Washington. He promised us that his words mattered. And, he attracted new voters to engage in the political process and asked all of us to hold him accountable.
His rival, Hillary Clinton, cautioned us that Obama was "peddling false hope." But in 2008 the vast majority of Americans gave him their trust.
Words Matter 2012 is a project devoted to giving voters a non-partisan and objective insight into what was promised...and what was delivered. From Guantanamo Bay to Wall Street, from the economy to fairness in government - Can we trust what our elected leaders tell us? Who is right? What do we believe? Do words still matter?
