Richard O'Dwyer's extradition to U.S looms over copyright infringement claims
Richard O'Dwyer, a 24-year-old student from Barnsley, is facing up to
ten years in a US prison for hosting a TV link site from his university
bedsit. The website linked to places where users could watch TV shows
and films online but did not host copyrighted content. He is one of the few remaining British citizens still fighting
extradition to the US over alleged cyber-crimes that have taken place on
British soil.

It seems a crazy situation where you can now be removed from your home country to face charges in a land you have never stepped foot in.
I really hope this doesn't happen, the guy has broken no laws in the UK.

@spellingpolice ..this is a different world now .people can commit all kinds of fraud throughout the world using computers .if someone from australia broke into the bank of england and stole a large amount of money dont you think he should go to jail in the uk if caught even though he has never been there

Good point but where does it end?
The main point is he hasn't committed a crime in his home country.
What if he had broken Saudi witchcraft laws? Should we also consider sending him there?

This is ridiculous. Come one, extradition over some alleged copyright issues?! What happened to commen sence, when is copyright infringement a serious crime that calls for extradition. I could understand it if he had comitted acts of terror or something in that neighbourghood or maybe had leaked confidential informations about national security, but this is just far out. Hope he makes it through and is not extradited so he can soon put this behind him.

What's crazy is pretty much nobody in the US wants a kid like this extradited or in jail, its just a handful of greedy media executives and their greedy scum sucking lawyers.
Come to think of it, I'm gonna write my congressman about this right now. They don't control us.

we have also signed a European Arrest Warrant treaty whereby a judge or even Magistrate in any EU country can ask for the extradition of any UK citizen if he or they think the evidence justifies it, even if it does not satisfy a British court of law. Several people have been subject to this recently. Bad News all round.
