From 1957 to 1978, scientists secretly removed bone samples from over
21,000 dead Australians as they searched for evidence of the deadly
poison, Strontium 90 - a by-product of nuclear testing. Silent Storm
reveals the story behind this astonishing case of officially sanctioned
'body-snatching'. Set against a backdrop of the Cold War, the saga
follows celebrated scientist, Hedley Marston, as he attempts to blow the
whistle on radioactive contamination and challenge official claims that
British atomic tests posed no threat to the Australian people.
Marston's findings are not only disputed, he is targeted as 'a scientist
of counter-espionage interest'. Now, questions are being raised about
the health repercussions for generations of Australians.

  • It's still in our milk supply in NZ. I rang the National radiation laboratory and they admitted it over the phone. You can also see it in yearly reports they release. Winds blew across auzzie from testing site to the coastal populated areas and onto NZ. Same way they always go.

    And yes cesium 137/sr90 mentioned in article and other nasties bio-accumulate inside you from your food sources, 80-90% passes through in urine, however not all. The more contamination the merrier. No safe level, one par More..

  • A great documentary from SBS Australia. Most people my age are now aware of the deceit that occurred during and after British Nuclear tests. This is also one of the reasons (I feel) that many Australians never embraced the nuclear age.
