An Iranian national claimed to be the perpetrator of the attack has been taken into custody. The assailant said he had carried out the attack because he and his family had been tortured in Iran.

A molotof cocktail was hurled at the Iranian consulate in Istanbul's Cağaloğlu district at 07:30 hours and as it hit the wooden door of the consulate , a fire broke out. The assailant and his accomplice fled the scene of the incident. The consulate staff stepped in to put out the fire and lots of police officers and fire fighters were called in.

The blaze was extinguished in a short time and a search was launched to apprehend the perpetrators. Police caught AN Iranian national by the nme of Javad Bizhetap claimed to have carried out the attack. Taken into custody , Bizhetap said his attack was the revenge of the torture he and his family in Iran had undergone.

The police investigation is underway.
