A police officer has been killed and a soldier seriously wounded in clashes between Iranian security forces and Kurdish rebels.
Varya Maleki, a police officer in Iran's northwestern province of Kurdistan was killed in the clashes which took place at daybreak on Friday.
An Iranian conscript was also severely wounded in the incident.
Members of the PJAK terrorist group are said to have accepted responsibility for the attack.
The Party of Free Life of Kurdistan, or PJAK, which is recognized as a terrorist organization by the EU Common Foreign and Security Policy and the governments of Iran, Turkey and the United States, is a branch of the Kurdistan Workers Party.
The Kurdistan Workers Party or PKK is an armed separatist group founded in the 1970s. The PKK is also listed as a terrorist organization by a number of countries and organizations, including Iran, Turkey, Syria, Iraq, Australia, the USA, NATO and the EU.
