Vietnamese vendors are very active in Chinese cities and towns along the border. They cross the border in the morning and go back in the evening. Border control in the area is pretty loose and you don't have to go thru the gate to get to the other side. They accept Chinese currency RMB in Vietnam and you can withdraw Vietnamese cash from Vietnamese ATM with Chinese bank cards.
