  • Why throw a piece of the spark plug? Hell, if you want to break a window just throw the whole damn spark plug through it.

  • According to Answers.com, "It has to do with hardness. Glass is actually "harder" than iron on the Mohs scale, and spark plug ceramic (technically called "aluminium oxide ceramic") is much harder than glass. Aluminium oxide ceramic actually rates a 9 on the Mohs scale; diamonds are 10, glass is 6.5, and iron is 4.5. That's the key to the whole thing, and why it's surprisingly hard to break a window with a hammer and surprisingly easy to break it with a small, light littl More..

  • This happened to my truck...Found a small piece of ceramic from the spark plug on the ground. Mine was tinted so it did not completley cave in. In fact I did not even realize it till I looked out the window into the side mirror....It looked like spider webbing. Cost me 200 bucks...Little neighborhood bastard child I assume.

    • I dont think its the spark plug that does it. I think its that ceramic is very hard and if you bust it and come up with a nice, sharp, jagged edge, and you manage to impact that edge on a window, the pounds per square inch generated at that razor point is far in excess of a regular item thrown at the window, including a spark plug.

In other words, it cant be the tip of the spark plug, or the rounded edge of the ceramic, but a very sharp corner, because that thing wont dull on impact like a r More..

    • Good explanation.

      You should write tech manuals.

  • How do you remove the piece of spark plug? I have a spark plug, I just don't know how to remove the ceramic piece.
