  • Reagan said he regretted the amnesty bill he signed into law because of the subsequent unbridled immigration. He advocated amnesty on the promise of tougher controls and finally controlling the illegal immigration issue, but it only got worse. Similar assurances are made today. Amnesty is a foolish strategy.

    • @el_tarasco He signed an amnesty bill on the promise of immigration control. The control never happened and he said later that he regretted it because once amnesty was granted more flooded in and the promises of controls were proven hollow.

    • @dorbie Yeah,Amnesty is not the solution,no more rewards.Stop employers from hiring them and they will return the way they came.Mexico is the number 1 automobile producer in North America with lower unemployment than U.S..I don't feel sorry for them.

  • He admitted it was his worst mistake as president. That should tell this administration something.

  • Amnesty was one of Reagan's biggest mistakes. He tried to devise amnesty as a one-time action to deal with the problem of the people in the country at that time, combined with stricter enforcement to prevent the problem in the future. Instead, enforcement remained weak, and it became even weaker under Clinton, and illegal immigrants figured that they'd just flock into the country in hopes of forcing another amnesty. If the country keeps offering amnesty, illegal immigrants will continue to co More..
