    Government & Society

Years from now, historians may regard the 2008 election of Barack Obama as an inscrutable and disturbing phenomenon, the result of a baffling breed of mass hysteria akin perhaps to the witch craze of the Middle Ages. How, they will wonder, did a man so devoid of professional accomplishment beguile so many into thinking he could manage the world's largest e More..

And Romney is so patriotic that he's keeping his money overseas instead of investing it into America and the American worker. You know, like he keeps telling other people to do. >_>

Exactly resets are suppose to happen in a free market. Bailing out business stifles progress, suppresses new business, and coddles special interests. It's amazing how brainwashing these speeches can be to the ignorant though.

    • @hamburger But, it's wrong to buy a profitable company, load it up with debt, bankrupt it and walkaway with a quarter billion dollars.

    • @forqalso - that's what scares the f out of me about Mittens - It's the "all about the bottom line" mentality.

This country needs an intervention. No presidents, just a team of non-partisan economists to put us back in the black...

      Posted Sep-5-2012 By

    • @stirgy well, if you don't have a bottom-line, then you go bankrupt. That is the problem with not having a fraking budget for 3 years.

  • I met some American tourists about a week or so ago and asked if they were excited for the election, to which they replied "not really".

I then made a comment that I didnt know much about Mit Romney. They responded by telling me that they were from Massachusetts where Mit Romney was governor and were TERRIFIED at the thought of him becoming President.

I thought that said alot about him, alot of "not so good".

  • For a presidential candidate that continually preaches 'investing in America' why is so much of Romney's money either donated to the Mormon church or in offshore accounts? :S

Can any Republicans tell me why Romney doesn't invest some of his millions into America's economy and create some businesses that employs people? Isn't Romney one the 'job creators' that tax cuts are suppose to encourage to open businesses and create jobs? Yet instead he puts his money overseas? Why isn't he walking the wa More..

That's what it was initially billed as.
And every President since the early seventies has released his taxes to the public to show he pays his fair share and doesn't cheat. Most produce SEVERAL YEARS WORTH.
Mitt only showed the most recent 2.

    • @mattb1974 Mitt paying his taxes was like me buying a cappuccino.
What I paid in taxes was a large chunk of my income.
A chunk that could have been spent buying consumer goods, a new car, taking a vacation, or invested in my kids college fund.
You know....things that ACTUALLY HELP THE ECONOMY?!??!?!
Mitt saved millions though, so that makes up for it. He get's to put more money in offshore accounts, sit on it and collect interest, or invest in foreign companies and currencies.

      Are you a patri More..

  • "Economic patriotism?"

You mean like your average Walmart shopper buying cheap Chinese-made goods?

How is paying what you're mandated unpatriotic? Most people don't even fucking pay taxes. They get the money refunded.

And business that fail should fail. Propping them up is just letting a wounded animal suffer. It's not the taxpayer's fault that the company couldn't compete.

    Posted Sep-5-2012 By

    • @jum_runky A tax refund doesn't mean you didn't pay any taxes, it means too much was withheld during the year.

    • @forqalso

I understand that (I have my employer take off extra for just that reason), but many of the people bitching about Romneys taxes don't even pay tax. My point was that some get back more than they paid in.

Over 76,000,000 in the USA pay zero income tax at all.

      Posted Sep-5-2012 By

      (-1)

    • @jum_runky With 40 million unemployed and Plenty below the poverty line, I believe that figure.
The REAL question is why do middle class people pay 30-40 percent, while assholes like mitt pay 10%?
Especially when he wouldn't miss it, and middle class people need the money, and will actually SPEND IT HERE which stimulates the economy!

      Posted Sep-5-2012 By

    • @castanza128

Why? Because the tax code in the USA is broken and severely biased toward high income earners.
