DETROIT, MI -- Three teenagers are in a juvenile detention center for leading Grosse Pointe, Michigan police on a high-speed chase that came to a crashing halt on Sunday.

Police said three 16-year-old boys were spotted driving a stolen car. Police said they tried to make a traffic stop when they saw the car was going 44 m.p.h. in a 30 m.p.h. zone.

Police said the car was traveling about 80 m.p.h. before crashing into two newspaper stands on the sidewalk outside a Bakery.

The newspaper stands were rocketed through the front window of the bakery and crashed into two refrigerator units.

The storeowner said there is more than $10,000 in damages.

Nobody was hurt during the incident.

"We're lucky it was a Sunday afternoon and the bakery was closed." Had it been a weekday, there could have been some serious injuries," said Grosse Pointe Park Police Chief David Hiller.

All three boys tested positive for marijuana and they were admitted to the Wayne County Juvenile Detention Facility.

"This is our juvenile issue. We've been facing this on the eastside with juveniles stealing cars and total disregard for the safety of people around," said Hiller.

The driver was charged with fleeing and eluding police and driving a stolen car.

The passengers were charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
