"Unmotivated" Double Murder of Two Co-eds Stuns Georgia

Authorities have released a series of photographs which they believe might hold the key to finding and arresting the killer of Eve Carson.

The pictures are from an a drive up ATM machine camera and appear to show a African American man in his late teens and possible early twenties in an SUV.

The UNC-Chapel Hill student and student-body president had been shot to death, her body found laying in an intersection early Wednesday.

Her car was stolen and police began searching for her vehicle, a 2005 blue Toyota Highlander with Georgia license plate AIV 6690. It was later found about 1 mile from her body.

The case has developed now to where the authorities are looking for the man in the black and white pic that was taken from a surveillance tape.

Police have also released the 911 tapes and authorities say that they are searching for someone that may have spotted Carson's vehicle overnight and during the day Wednesday.

That's when her car was found. She had been shot at least once in the head. On the two 911 tapes that were released one person said that they heard three shots early in the morning on Wednesday and cops believe that was likely the shot that was fatal. That first 911 call came in just after 5:00 am on Wednesday morning. A second call the emergency dispatch came in three minutes later and that caller believed they heard four shots.

Police would not say when the above ATM photo was taken. The picture is courtesy of the Chapel Hill police department and anyone with any information is asked to call the authorities if they recognize this individual that is described as a "person of interest."

Unfortunately, there are disturbing similarities between Eve Carson's murder and the murder of Auburn University student Lauren Burk.

18-year-old Lauren Burk was found on Highway 147, about 9 miles from her Auburn campus, suffering from several gunshot wounds to her head and body. Police were called and she was transported to the East Alabama Medical Center around 9:30 pm Tuesday night - but she died sometime that night.

Police also got a call about a car fire around the same time Lauren's body was found, and officials have confirmed the car was Burk's black Honda Civic. She was not in the car at the time it burst into flames.

Lauren Burk is from Georgia. While there are some similarities, there are also some differences in these two tragic cases, one being that Eve's car was stolen while Lauren's was set on fire.

The similarities, however, are worth examining. Both were murdered and left for dead in the middle of a main road. They were both shot "several" times. Both girls are young, both are from Georgia and both attended college.

Authorities have arrested Courtney Larrell Lockhart, 23, and charged him with capital murder. Read more about it here.
