True enough that Afghanistan doesn't need a foreign force to make it impoverished and 'beaten', the Taliban managed that just fine before we ever got involved.
Repairing the damage takes time, especially when the Taliban still stubbornly hold onto to existence and spend every day doing more damage that needs fixing.
