!!! DIE MUTHER FUCKA, DIE MUTHER FUCKA DIE !!!....
Sony's troubles during the fiscal year ended March 31 were major -- and its latest financials bear that out.
The company today announced its fiscal-year earnings, revealing that its revenue slipped by 9.6 percent compared to last year, ending the period at $79.2 billion. What's worse, Sony's fiscal-year loss hit a record $5.55 billion, effectively making it the worst fiscal year in the company's storied history.
Still, Sony tried to keep a brave face on its earnings, saying that its sales declines were primarily due to unforeseen circumstances, including a strong yen, the Great East Japan Earthquake, and the floods in Thailand. The company did acknowledge, however, that some of its divisions were hit hard during the period.
One of those hard-hit segments was the company's Consumer Products & Services division. According to Sony, sales in that division, which includes LCD televisions, PCs, digital imaging, and other core products, were down 18.5 percent to $38.3 billion. What's worse, that division posted a meager operating profit during the 2011 fiscal year, but fell to a massive $2.8 billion operating loss in 2012.
For shareholders, this is by no means surprising. Sony has been posting difficult quarters for the last year, and has made drastic changes to address its troubles. Chief among those changes was the company's replacement of former CEO Howard Stringer with new chief executive Kazuo Hirai. Under Hirai's leadership, Sony has shuffled its executive team and initiated a strategy, called "One Sony," that shifts the company's focus to "three core pillars" -- digital imaging, gaming, and the mobile market.
In order to return Sony to profit, however, the realignment won't be enough. So, last month, the company announced that it plans to lay off 10,000 employees, or about 6 percent of its global workforce, to help it return to profitability.
"I thought turning around thePlayStation business was going to be the toughest challenge of my career, but I guess not," Hirai said to the Wall Street Journal about Sony before he officially took the role of CEO. "It's one issue after another. I feel like 'Holy s--, now what?'"
Despite having to make tough decisions and the chances of more coming seem high, Sony is confident that its next fiscal year will be much better. In today's earnings announcement, the company said that it expects revenue during its 2013 fiscal year to jump by 14 percent to 7.4 trillion yen ($92.9 billion). In addition, the company expects to reverse its losses and make a slight, 30 billion yen profit on the period.

Ever since the rootkit, I have not bought a single Sony product. I refuse even to buy their movies, except secondhand.
Nice to see they're going broke for lack of my money. ;-)

They aren't saying it,but i think this has a lot to do with Blu-ray.There isn't much in movies coming out anyway, but streaming is killing the the physical media business after they invested so much.

@kajidono They make decent products but they are priced higher than average. They are now struggling because things like their TVs source the exact same panels as everyone else so the mythical quality bubble is getting popped. Speak to a good TV salesperson and they tell you that the expensive Sony TVs use the same 3rd party panels as other brands like Samsung and LG.
One exception that springs to mind are their Android tablets which are BOTH shitty and overpriced. Every other tablet I see is m More..

@dorbie We'll just throw in shitty customer service, embarrassing publicity, and threatening to sue everyone and everything. Basically the same problems a lot of large companies are having. Using an old business model and trying to ram it down people's throats instead of adapting to the times.

Ive owned both a PS3. and 360, but ill always stick with my PS3, and Sony for that matter. The 360 i bought was the only console/computer ive ever owned that wasnt Sony, and it failed miserably.
Fuck the Microsoft fanboys. I grew up on Sony.

@8fl0z I have a PS3, my next console will be an XBOX 720. I worked for Sony at one point, everyone there is afraid to fart without corporate approval from Japan. A culture that is very much encouraged from the top down.
We wrote a great piece of cross platform game development middleware. It was gonna be released to the dev community it would have gotten a lot of interest. The Sony Japanese brain trust sent their retards to wrap it in .NET crap and restricted the release to internal developers. More..

They don't seem to even try. Take PS Move for example. It works really well, has so much potential and is soooo much better than Kinect for many reasons in my opinion.
What have they done with it? Absolutely fuck all!
Same as you said, value, flushed...

@dorbie you might want to wait a few years before getting a 720.I went through three xbox 360s because of the RROD,had too many games to consider switching to ps3,but after the third one I said fuck it and bought a ps3.xbox is the worst piece of shit console I have ever bought and I dont think I will trust microsoft with my money again.

@vargas456 I doubt they'll repeat the RROD issues. Many problems were caused by GPU overheating issues. They're sourcing AMD Radeon GPUs this time around. Power density and heat dissipation will be a major focus.
