      Actually, it has the best safety record of Marine rotor-wings between 2001-2011, although it didn't see combat till 2007 (combat puts major strain on birds). Surprised me, too, considering the troubles during prototype testing.

  • The Marines invested heavily in this Osprey and several years and millions later, they got this miracle of aviation. If you ask me, it's a death-trap that will be more prone to crash then any other aircraft - but the Marines consider its capabilities worth the trade off. Range, speed, air-to-air refueling ease are all better then any helicopter.     • @Hitler_Is_Amazing Both rotors are connected by a common center gearbox and shaft,One engine can power both rotors.It's not much different than chinook,Just sideways and tilts forwards for more speed.It got a bad reputation from a software glitch during testing.
