waddaya think, then? should we privatize ALL schools (those "bastions of liberalism") and only let kids go to school if their parents can afford it? what sayest thou?

Actually a private-public school system might work quite well. Define a standard government subsidy for a child's education and let there be competition. If public schools can't compete, let them figure out what they need to do differently. Let people vote with their feet!
As to not providing an education, I don't believe anyone here would agree that it's acceptable to keep a child from basic education. However, _how_ a child reaches that basic education should be up to the parents.
For exampl More..

you jumped the gun there Lasrever. All i want is schools to have outcome goals that put math, science, english, and history above self esteem, happyness, and social conditioning. Outcome based education can be debated, but it does "work".
For example, the EQA back in the 80's and 90's, or whatever they call it now, had questions about behavior, and you could get a question wrong, about how you feel towards somthing.
There are RIGHT and WRONG anwers to how you are supposed to feel More..

I've visited and was blown away by the Idiocracy (just like the movie).
Mr Tomasi is a good representation, too.

For a short period I lived nearby in Aptos and found out that this same thing is ingrained in everyone in Santa Cruz. Scary. Really scary. They must put LSD in the water or something.

Well, at least Robert Norse(king of the homeless) wasn't wearing his customary ratty bathrobe to court/council. Notice how well our feeding and housing program has worked in attracting insane homeless people to Santa Cruz. To be fair, we also have as many people at the other end of the spectrum as we have crazies.
