An explosion that took place today at the Maracaibo City Maintenance Department, state of Zulia, left four people injured, and one seriously.
According to a report by Venezolana de Television, officials from the Scientific, Penal and Criminal Investigations Department (CICPC) and the Bolivarian Intelligence Service (SEBIN), are performing investigations.
According to the website Noticia al dia.com, from Maracaibo, the explosion occurred after an unknown person threw an explosive device, presumably a grenade, at the scene.
This version has not been confirmed by police sources.
Noticia al dia.com also reported that authorities have a photo of the perpetrator, as he was filmed by surveillance cameras located near the Maintenance Department, an entity reporting to the city mayor.
The four wounded, all employees of that institution, remain hospitalized but stable, Noticia al dia.com added.
The city of Maracaibo is headed by Mayor Eveling Trejo, the wife of Manuel Rosales, who was the sole opposition candidate against President Hugo Chavez in the 2006 presidential elections.
Eveling Trejo is a member of the party Un Nuevo Tiempo, from which she continues to actively oppose the government led by President Chavez.
