(documentary) "Supersize Me" (2004) (Part 4/4)

Spurlock's film follows a 30-day experiment during which he subsists entirely on food and items purchased from McDonald's. Documented are the effects on Spurlock's physical and psychological well-being. The film also explores the fast food industry's corporate influence -- including how it encourages poor nutrition for its own profit.

During the filming, Spurlock dined at McDonald's restaurants three times per day, sampling every item on the chain's menu at least once. He consumed an average of 5,000 calories (the equivalent of 9.26 Big Macs) per day during the experiment.

People should have the right to make decisions for them selves and live (and die) by them. The government should stop trying to be our nannies and let us grow up. You can't, or rather shouldn't make the world a rubber room where people are physically incapable of making poor decisions. Saturated fats are not illegal and should not be regulated. "

You got me on all counts. I am an obese high school dropout who owns lots of shares of McDonalds. How insightful.

As ignorant as I am I seem to remember how McDonalds dropped their imports of Brazilian beef the moment there was public outcry. This was brought to you by the very old fashioned "free market" you seem to detest.

  • OBTW, Spurlock has every right to decry McDonalds or any other corporation. 1st amendment! Just as long as he doesn't slander them, then there might be a tort awaiting him if they are willing to take the lesser of the two PR hits. A free market is a beautiful thing. The people who buy McDonalds will get what they want. If it's a healthier diet, their wish will be granted.

A dollar has more power to effect McDonald's behavior than a stripper swinging from a pole.

  • We forgot to tell that Mc Do is also partially responsable for destroying the rainforest in Brasil. The "cleared" territory is used for soja and beaf. The beaf goes to the burgers and the soja to the cattle. And this is not a joke, but a very sad true story!!
    Ban Mc Do!
