You should see its competitor in the JSF competition, the X-32. Now that's one ugly airplane!

It's designed to kill and not be seen.
Pretty won't come into it when it's saving your ass ;)
Everything is mounted internally; Bombs, ghuns and so on. Looks 'fat', but it's fully loaded...

The X32 wasn't as pretty. But it had a centrally weighted engine which made it the shape it was.

    • @Obba41 not quite, unlike the F-22 the F-35 will carry external stores as well as internal.

    • @agedob i agree completely, but it has that "it's ugly, but i can't help but like it" quality to it.
i still think the YF23 was a better choice than the F22.

  • I still like the F-22 better.

    • @Hazel_Nut can the harrier take off vertically fully loaded?....no, just like the F-35 in needs a short run. How can you call an aircraft that is still in development a fail? until it is operational it is impossible to call it a failure. you do know what aircraft development is dont you?
Are you one of these people that think we can keep relying on current aircraft? you have to face the fact that advanced aircraft take time and money to develop especially if you are trying to get 3 variants from More..
