Missing Grosse Pointe Park Man Found Dead on Detroit Belle Isle

DETROIT (WJBK) -- Fighting whistling wind and frigid cold, the
Detroit Mounted Division and Michigan State Police K-9 units began their
day on Belle Isle searching for a missing man. 46-year-old James Ivers
of Grosse Pointe Park was a husband and father of two. He worked for
the Water Board in Detroit. He had been missing since Sunday when he
left his home around noon. Around 3:00 p.m. Sunday, police say
people out walking on the island discovered his car crashed into theirs,
but there was no sign of Ivers. Instead, on Wednesday, a
tracking dog named Metro located a badly decomposed body in the Blue
Heron Lagoon. An autopsy showed it's a man with no obvious signs of
trauma, but it wasn't James Ivers. Thursday morning, Metro back at Belle Isle discovered Ivers' body behind several fences near the nature center.

"He
was located in an extremely dense vegetation and water growth area
behind the nature center. It was very difficult to get to," said Grosse
Pointe Park Safety Director David Hiller. Police say Ivers may
have become disoriented after crashing his car, but they are waiting for
an autopsy to determine a cause of death. There were no obvious signs
of trauma and no indications of foul play. "It would appear ...
that he walked away from the accident and got disoriented. Why and how I
don't know because to be in the area that he is, don't know if he tried
to cut back through the woods to get to another road. We're only
speculating at this point in time," Hiller said.

  • Mutamed, I'm starting to get the feeling that you don't work for the Detroit tourism board. I hope you don't have to live in that shit hole.

  • Actually Grosse Point is a neat little town. Small population. The wife and I was riding thru on a MC tour and ran into a movie production. I think it was 97 or so. Turns out, that was the name of the movie. Pretty sure it was called, Grosse Point Blank.
    A very small quaint town.
