UK Police Get Guns

Common sense can only be suppressed for so long... The UK has annually on average about 2,000 violent crimes for 100,000 people. The US has about 450, per 100,000 people.
Something to consider is that culturally Sweden is similar to the rest of Europe, with one major exception. They have more guns per capita than nearly any other place on Earth.
So why do they have so many less murders?... If guns are magic objects that create violent killers, why does that not apply to the Swedes? Does this silly fantasy rule not apply to blond people?

It means nothing until the actual citizens are allowed to own firearms. If I lived in a country that didn't allow me to own a gun I certainly wouldn't want the government to have the privilege.

In 2008 there were 42 gun related deaths and in the previous year 2007, there were 51. Those numbers dont even begin to compare with the problems over in the states. FFS !

There is a God!!- It's about time!! These officers are on the street with their billy's for all these years, good on them. Like bringing a knife to a gun fight all these years. The crooks have superior weapons- not hard with an unarmed force.

The key words in the report was 'gang crime'. The likes of the Eastern Europeans mafia-like gangs are the problem. Drug dealers and the like. If the UK tightened up immigration control I wouldn't mind betting that 60-70% of the gun related crimes would disappear. Unfortunately you can only fight fire with fire. I would hate to see all coppers carrying guns but it would make me feel a lot safer and the current ruling about police using guns is outdated. By the time they get permission to draw arms the incident is in more cases than not over and someones dead. Rant over!
