Mitt Romney's team has made an unprecedented power grab within the GOP that would essentially cement Romney as the party dictator. The Republican National Convention Rules Committee voted 63-38 today to hand the Republican National Committee and Romney unfettered power to amend the GOP rules as they saw fit, without any need for a convention vote.

This move, combined with the other rule change designed to prevent campaigns like Ron Paul's from garnering delegates at the state level, will effectively stamp out any grassroots movements within the GOP.

Romney's team sprung this rule change on the Convention Rules Committee on Friday, guaranteeing that opposition would not have time to form against the proposal. Romney and the RNC, which is made up of party insiders and over which Romney exerts considerable influence as the party's nominee, can now change rules to exclude anything that party insiders do not like.

Bye-bye, GOP, it was nice knowing you. No more Ron Paul, no more Tea Party, no more grassroots anything. My prediction is that the party will die if Romney and the RNC exercise this power.
