BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. -- An exclusive dashcam video obtained by CBS12 from the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office Wednesday shows a deputy being dragged by a motorcyclist through an Interstate 95 interchange at Gateway Boulevard.
The deputy, dragged about 300 feet, was not seriously injured but appeared a bit shaken up by the March 29 incident, suffering scrapes and damage to his uniform. After returning to his cruiser, the video shows the deputy continuing his pursuit on northbound I-95 until he pulled over north of the Hypoluxo interchange.
Police arrested the motorcyclist at a shopping plaza on Congress Avenue south of Gateway Boulevard in Boynton Beach shortly after the incident.
The deputy who was dragged was using a laser to clock vehicle speeds at I-95 and Woolbright Road at about 1:25 PM March 29, and captured the suspect's white motorcycle travelling 112 MPH. The deputy pulled up next to suspect at the off ramp of I-95/Gateway Blvd and tried to stop the suspect. As the deputy approached the suspect's motorcycle, the suspect quickly accelerated, dragging the deputy approximately 300 feet. The deputy fell off the back of the suspect's vehicle and the motorcycle continued northbound on I-95.
Victor Morales, 38, of 11770 Leewood Place, Boca Raton, was arrested on charges of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, fleeing and eluding and resisting arrest with violence. Morales was released from jail March 30 pending those charges.
