Truck bursts into flames near gas pumps

November 6th, 2007 There was a scary situation at a gas station in northwestern Illinois Sunday night (11/4). A pickup truck burst into flames dangerously close to the gas pumps. The truck was about 20 feet from the pumps at a convenience store. Everyone inside the building got out immediately, fearing an explosion. The worker on duty says she was unaware of the emergency pump shutoff switch, so the gas pumps continued to be in full operation even while the flames were burning brightly in the night. The fire department was able to bring things under control. The store employee says the truck owner was inside the shop to get some milk and ice cream. When he exited the store and saw his truck in flames, the man raced into a field across the street. No one was injured. The cause of the fire is not known.
