I was thinking the same thing. $150 Ebay turbocharger from China?
American Garrett and Japanese Grex turbines don't do that.

@mphatik I just can't understand someone who will save a few bucks at the cost of eating a turbo housing. But hey, a failed attempt at fabrication happens to us all, its how you learn.

Yup, I've fabricated my fair share of things. Come to think of it, a race day I paid for in full at Laguna Seca comes to mind.
Take my SR20DET powered Silvia out on the track, home made inter cooler piping. Wouldn't you know it continues to blow (couplings were cheap I later learned) out and I lose boost pressure immediately every time. What a waste. I just ended up buying the HKS kit for $350, lol.

Looks to be a 1JZ or a 2JZ, and it definitely blew the turbo apart.

@mphatik The exhaust turbine looks like a home made job, unless I have just never seen a turbo that looks like that, you?

I've seen them, on EBAY. Lol, it looks like a cheapy.
You know damn well Garrett turbos wouldn't blow the compressor housing off, good old made in the USA. I've never seen that happen. Talk about dangerous, if the engine sucks in any type of metal fragments, he just scoured the shit out of his block.

And thats why you buy a V8 with a 4bbl carb. Fuck turbos/superchargers.

They aren't turbocharging for the power, they're turbocharging for engine efficency. (unless of course it's a preformance machine)

I'd be so pissed off I'd be sending a very terse letter to eBay demanding the return of the $89 I paid for that turbocharger.

Wastegate malfunction. Routes exhaust gas around turbo so it doesn't spin at 40k rpm and explode. If the driver was experienced enough he would have heard it and backed off the accelerator pedal.

@weada: Uhhh, no. Turbochargers routinely spin up to 200K rpm.

@maddog2681 You're right. Just looked it up. Highest I found was 170k rpm. I shouldn't have thrown out numbers without being sure. I still think it was wastegate. I've seen a few Subaru's blow up and it turned out to be oil starvation due to a tiny tube that was easily blocked. You think cheap turbo, manufacturer problem, age or the dude on the pedal?
