Some people need guidance- religion gives this "path" and guidance. If it works why knock it? As for people knockin the fact they have named themselves "Jihad" look up the translation for Jihad and you will see that it actually means Struggle, not war and bloodshed as the media comstantly portray.

jihad in arabic means to strive, to struggle, to defend .In islam to conform with its teachings and Strive against the material temptations is considered the major strive ( major jihad) , fighting and defending your property or land is the minor jihad.
Jihad is a common name for both boys and girls in the middle east. .names in arabic mostly have meanings in the language but people do not actually think too much about that when naming their kids .
