Following a meeting of French political parties, France's prime minister
has said that he is is happy with the domestic and international
support for the country's intervention in Mali after a request for
assistance from the Malian government.
France has conducted four
days of air strikes on Islamist rebel strongholds in the West African
state in an attempt to dislodge the militants. The intervention has been
supported by the international community, led by the United States and
United Kingdom, as well by African states, including Algeria, which has
allowed France full use of its air space.
Al-Qaeda linked rebels
in Mali, however, remain defiant, saying that France has "opened the
gates of hell" promising a long and brutal war like the American-led
campaign in Afghanistan.
