Beer: An American Revolution
What many of you might not realize American breweries don't only produce "piss beer". In fact American brewing companies win more medals than any other country in the world.

microbrews are awesome, but sadly, if you go to anyone's house and they offer you a beer, its probably gonna be one of those piss beers.

mmmmm, 1450 breweries!
Sampling 3 beers a day it would take me 4 years to taste every beer.

@2DLISH2QUIT
Sam Adams is definitely not in the American piss beer category by any means. They know what they're doing albeit a bit over-hopped on their lager IMHO.

@Airdisaster
Belgian beer absolutely rules as #1 no questions asked.
Anheiser-Busch makes more piss beer than all Belgian breweries combined however. There's no accounting for taste is there?

It's true, American mainstream beer is shit. Most of the awards are for micro breweries.
Myself, I prefer German beer, a clear wheat beer, to be exact.

@starskyandhutch69 ice cold grafenwalder (strong, in the black can) with few drops of peach syrup. goes down nice for inexpensive german beer.

@Thunderscratch so german beer with peach syrup added is better than American?

@Deakion2008 better than "mainstream" american beers. microbrews are another story. another problem i had with microbrews in the states is that the small shops run out of the beer you want every 2 or 3 days. that can be a pain in the ass.

Not many of those brews reach Canada but I certainly support Canadian micro breweries. I've been a zymurgist (zymurgist: Part of Speech: n: Definition: a scientist who studies the chemical process of fermentation in brewing and distilling; also, by extension, a brewer) OK, I've been a homebrewer for 29 years and was runner-up in the North American championship a while back.
Some micro-breweries rule.
If you want to give it a shot yourself, go buy "The Complete Joy of Homebrewing" by More..

It's an interesting hobby to say the least. You can't drink match box or stamp collections.
Papazian's book is on Amazon. Start with that. Take baby steps. You won't become a master brewer overnight but it's good to hear that you're going to take a shot.
Feel free to contact me off list. I know a shitload about brewing beer.

I love that beer. When I lived out there it was cheap, now living in FL I recently started to find it and it's about $2-$2.25 a bottle, supermarket 6 pack price.

I've been a fan of Schlafly beer for the last 10 years. I gave up on Busch when the company was sold. I don't think you can get it outside of St.Louis though.
