: The SumbandilaSat finally took off into space when the Soyuz rocket launched on Thursday night amid much anticipation and excitment.
SumbandilaSat was one of five satellites to catch a lift into space on the Soyuz rocket to be placed in orbit around the earth.
When the Cape Times watched the rocket launch live over the Internet on Thursday night it was already dark in Baikunor, Kazakhstan. At first it appeared as if nothing was happening and the launch would for the third time this week be postponed.
Suddenly the rocket, surrounded by scaffolding, could be seen as engines below fired flames into the darkness and the sound of revving engines filled the air.
