No payload to speak of. That must take an extreme amount of fuel for whatever weight it does have (beyond the fuel).

@teccec But it's the Technology that's demonstrated that opens up new doors. I agree though, lots to work out. Sometimes you have to move ahead anyways, otherwise you'd look at all the technological obstacles to overcome, and you'd wind up like.... well like Afghanistan.

Well. One thing is for sure. No chinese parts were used in the making of this rocket.

How to control an uncontrollable explosion.
The rocket is an inverted broomstick control problem. The mass is above the pivot point, ie the exhaust port so its an unstable system. Just to complicate things, the mass varies throughout the mission as the fuel is exhausted and the thrust varies with altitude.

The issue you described were addressed and resolved with the Delta Clipper program, the CG is maintained via vectored thrust regardless of the variable payload IE; fuel usage and landing gear deployment, also factored in to the math was any ground effects and lateral wind effects.
The Delta Clipper was done in by 1 landing gear leg that failed to deploy, even so with the off center loading caused by the one non-deployed leg, it still maintained a vertical attitude stability cont More..

Amazing, all thanks to sophisticated computer control algorithms and advanced thrust vectoring.

first step is to get it to not blow up.. then lets worry about a parachute then this

Now if you can camouflage that to look like a tree, we may have something...

I'll bet the technicians were shitting at the moment of touchdown. Awfully bouncy there for a moment!
Cool rig, if a little funky looking.

Seen this a few months ago the rocket booster auto adjusts to prevent it rolling over as it falls, it came from the NASA Mars lander experiments.
