Looks like something a movie company should use when they show their logo and the little animation.

Too bad we can't harness the huge battery that is our planet and its atmosphere...

@jeffbaustin I actually have thought of a way to possibly do that but I don't know if it would work.
What if you had lightning rods in Florida as a lightning electricity farm. The rods are set up as antennas of the coast with an underwater metal grid attached. There is some kind of tubing around the grid that draws off electrolyzed gasses off the grid every time lightning strikes.
In other words, lightning strikes electrolyze ocean water into hydrogen and oxygen, and you draw off the gasse More..

@jeffbaustin I came up with this idea around the same time he did evidently. Sadly, doesn't look like its made much headway since the original patent time frame. I don't find much else on this guy out there. Maybe the idea is full of hot air, IDK.

@Saros Neat idea. I often wondered if it would ever be possible to construct a capacitor huge enough to take the current and voltage in a lightning strike. The capacitor would store the charge for later use.

@radiofreak I'm thinking that would be impractical. I had the same thought and it occurred to me, you can't store it electrically, but you can store that energy chemically, in the form of separated hydrogen/oxygen. This "potential energy" could then be unleashed in fuel cells which recombine them to release the energy and back to water.
So the idea has potential, but whether IT would be feasible isn't clear to me .
