@wuschii The reason for that is because the allied forces knew the germans had air superiority if these jets made it in the air.

looks like, yes - point defense rocket fighter. once their fuel was burnt, which took 2 to 3 minutes, they were reduced to gliders, unable to power out of hazardous situations. at height they still could maneuver to a certain extent, but in the end they were defenseless sitting ducks. the aggressive fuel (high grade hydrogen peroxide and methanol-hydrazine) was a highly reactive combo. when the rest amounts in the tanks mixed due to incoming machinegun fire or due to a rough landi More..

Mostly these were bounces while the jets were coming in to land. That was the most vulnerable time.
Overall the jets had a pretty good kill ratio with lots of kills by the jets compared to relatively few by the allied props
