During the Vietnam war, the Vietcong fought a guerrilla war, while the US forces fought a more conventional war, often relying on air superiority and overwhelming firepower. The US deluged the north with a million tons of ordnance in an attempt to "bomb them back into the Stone Age". The bombing escalated from the North, to the Ho Chi Min trail but was ultimately un-successful.
