"I have been released from the hospital. Cat scan good, no broken bones, both hands are bruised and my neck is really sore. a few stitches in the hand. The throttle stuck wide open just after hitting 5th gear. I want to thank my crew for building a safe car, because I went into the trees at 130 mph and walked out of the hospital. Thank you for your concerns."

@the wedge Actually the safest spot is the Apex of a turn. Don't have a clue what the outside of the corner is called since it doesn't matter in racing no one wants to be there.

I would say it is safer than the exit of the turn but the safest place is on the other side of the track.

@the wedge With those cars I don't really know where safe is.... anything can happen at those speeds. I go to a lot of local rally events we always stay high up on the apex. Never on the outside of a turn.

@AdamRA It's a hill climb so there is plenty of high ground to stand on. I would prefer to sit on a birm on the inside of a turn.

@CatJuggler 1000hp home designed and built race car with no cut off switches for the coil and fuel pump in case something happened to the engine, like the throttle sticking wide open. Not safe.

@Epic_Beard_Man Yeah, that occurred to me too, after having another day to chew on it. I can't really tell from this tiny clip, but I'm guessing he came out of that turn in 4th, full throttle, hit fifth, and dumped the clutch before it even registered that it was stuck wide open. That puff of smoke appears to be his tires spinning when he engaged the clutch in 5th.
With 1000hp under his foot, coming out of that curve, and hitting the next gear at full power, he probably had less than a second t More..
