Your own personal aircraft

Engineers from NASA's Langley's Research Center have unveiled plans to build a personal aircraft.

Meet the Puffin. It's an airplane concept conjured up by the mind of aerospace engineer Mark Moore.

Moore came up with the design for the electric powered, 12-foot (3.7 m)
long, 14.5-foot (4.4 m) wingspan personal air vehicle as part of the
coursework for his doctoral degree.

  • And from what I understand, they will be affordable for even the tightest of budgets. You will be able to own one of these bad boys for somewhere around ONLY $35,000,000!!!! Order yours today!!!!

  • The average auto-driver is just one brick above the absolute minimum mentality required to drive their cars. How in the hell could say 95 percent of the drivers in America ever learn how to handle one of these?! LOL

  • Vaporware. Probably ends up a flying coffin like the Osprey. Besides, fat Americans can't fit in it.

  • When will people stop saying stuff that runs on electricity gives off no emissions, do they take us for fools...

    • @Dream76 ...if the electricity comes from hydro, wind, tidal, solar or nuclear sources then there are NO emissions. Coal and oil fired plants are not the only sources of electricity.

    • @Nepean109 All electricity is added to the grid from all sources. You'er not going to be on a hydro or wind only grid...

    • @ammo1a from what I gathered, It looked like the craft would experience auto gyro rotation and fell slowly like a maple seed.

    • @PSR J1748-2446ad Not only that but a simple, proven rocket propelled emergency chute has worked on experimental planes for years.

  • "no emission" uh? so the juice (electricity) comes exclusively from alternative sources (solar, wind, etc.) or nuclear. hmmm... Maybe... but even if it's the case, building, setting up and maintaining those alternative energy producing facilities (let alone a nuclear reactor) actually release massive amount of emissions. There is no free meal on this planet.

Hello!! They will get their electricity by harnessing the natural current given off by pods of dolphins as they effortlessly glide through serene a natural waterscapes around the globe. When the dolphins are sleeping, they will harness the air flow coming off of lady bugs as they migrate north and south to between their summer and winter homes. Even small children know this silly!!!

  • "This plane lands and takes off like a helicopter"... "Once in the air, it tilts forward and flies like a plane."

Where have we heard this before? Sounds like the V-22 to me. Lets see if some NASA engineers can get right what the Boeing ones cannot.

  • It is a simple fact that there would be many great inventions in use now if not for the trial lawyers. Inventions like this are impossible only because idiots are allowed to sue companies out of business.
